BC Internet Portal for Skilled Immigrants: Stakeholder Survey& Environmental Scan Employment Access for Skilled Immigrants [EASI] Initiative

Conducted research into the development of a provincial Internet Portal for Skilled Immigrants including 85 stakeholder surveys and an environmental scan of existing resources. The final report with key recommendations was submitted to the EASI membership and provides the foundation for further project development. The report can be found at [www.mcaws.gov.bc.ca/amip/iqp].

Career Dialogues... Sto:lo Nation

Career Dialogues, now named First Dialogues, is a project created in collaboration with the Sto:lo Nation, the AHRDA agreement holder for the Fraser Valley and the Sto:lo Nation's 22 member bands. The central premise of the project is at risk Aboriginal youth have an understanding of the 'how' to stay in school, plan a career, and embark on a fulfilling career. One of the important ingredients missing is the 'why?' necessary to generate motivation. Career Dialogues intensively trains teams of peer presenters and facilitators to make presentations to their peer group on career planning and self development. The peer facilitators organise their own schedules, make their own bookings and devise the best methods and activities to reach their audience.

This inspirational, interactive career resource helps students and out-of-school youth to make relevant and informed career and education plans. From overviews of growth industries to the latest career and education programs, Career Paths compiles labour market information, inspiring stories, quizzes, and thought-provoking articles. Enhancing Occupational Outlook Products – Forum of Labour Market Ministers

Team leader on consultations with federal, provincial and territorial labour market information contacts to develop strategies to enhance occupational outlook products through increased cooperation. Developed set of recommendations for the Forum of Labour Market Ministers – Labour Market Information Division based on consultation findings and analysis of Australian labour market information program.

Evaluation, business planning and communications activities - WoodLINKS

WoodLINKS is an industry-education training initiative that carries out career awareness, education and certification activities for the wood products industry in Canada and the United States.

Manpower Planning Strategy - BC Ministry of Skills Development and Labour

Worked in collaboration with Marlyn Chisholm& Associates to draft a Manpower Planning Strategy for the BC Ministry of Skills Development and Labour. Responsibilities included research and writing of sections including: Challenges to Labour Force & Skills Development, Sectoral Manpower Initiatives, Recruitment & Retention of Skilled Workers, Immigration, Brain Drain, and Devolution of Labour Market Development Agreement.

Motiv8: The School-to-Work Transition Publication... YES Canada-BC and HRDC

This publication aimed at at-risk youth focuses on 8 themes central to the career/life planning process: Dreams, Goals, Action, Innovation, Skills, Choices, Knowledge and Flexibility. A source of information on helping students and youth navigate the school-to-work transition, Motiv8 profiles programs and people who are offering solutions to make those transitions smoother. National Mentorship Portal... REALM Magazine and Human Resources Development Canada

Content Strategist for a Human Resources Development Canada sponsored online mentorship portal and electronic mentorship program linking youth directly with mentors across Canada. We developed the content for both the public and private websites together with the training materials that were used for the online mentorship program. [http://www.realm.net/mentor]

Opportunity Knocks... REALM/YES Canada-BC and CCDA

A supplement to REALM, Opportunity Knocks is a mini magazine about careers in the trades. It breaks down long-held myths about trades careers and includes profiles of young tradespeople, labour market information on the Red Seal trades and information on training and apprenticeship. Readership Survey... YES Canada-BC

Conducted a national online and telephone readership survey for REALM Magazine and Webzine. Analyzed survey results and made key recommendations as part of a national Human Resources Development Canada evaluation of REALM. [http://www.realm.net]

Canada’s magazine about life and work in your 20s. Created by, for and about Canadian youth, REALM specializes in delivering career and labour market information in a hip, edgy and accessible format. [http://www.realm.net]

Student Financial Assistance Handbook – University of British Columbia

Researched, developed and wrote a 20-page handbook that provides an introduction to financial assistance for UBC students and their parents. We worked closely with Student Financial Assistance & Awards at UBC to produce a publication that clarified a fairly complex process. [http://www.students.ubc.ca/finance]

Tourism: The Fastest Growing Industry on the Planet... REALM/YES Canada-BC and CTHRC

Highlighting the diversity of careers in the tourism industry, this mini-magazine and insert was produced through a partnership between YES Canada-BC and the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council. Presented in a bold, graphic format, the publication addresses training, salaries, advancement, career paths, rapid growth in the industry and what all this information means to young employees.

Training Resources - Youth Initiatives... Ministry of Advanced Education

In conjunction with the Youth Initiatives team, developed a range of training resources for the delivery of the Student Summer Works and Youth Community Action programs including communication materials, training packages and interactive training sessions.

United Nations Pacific Youth Forum... United Nations Association

Organized a 3 day educational forum to commemorate and evaluate the United Nations 50th Anniversary. Attracted a wide variety of international and national speakers to the conference attended by over 100 delegates from the Pacific Northwest. Conference delegates were on CKNW’s Bill Good Show and the BCTV News Hour.

Way of Thinking: New Definitions of Entrepreneurship... REALM/YES Canada-BC and HRDC

This mini magazine and REALM supplement challenges young people to see themselves as entrepreneurial beings, taking charge of their own careers and using the skills of an entrepreneur to court opportunity and fully use their own skills and abilities. [http://www.realm.net/wayofthinking]

This poster/brochure and website provides career practitioners with a selected, annotated listing of career and labour market information resources that are the key to understanding BC’s labour market. [http://www.whatskey.org]

Work Futures for Entry Level Jobs... Ministry of Advanced Education

We researched, developed and wrote a book currently to press, which provides 77 career options for people without post secondary education. The challenge, which we successfully met, was to combine accurate labour market employment projections with an engaging and motivating editorial style written to a Grade 8 literacy level. Human Resources Development Canada was a contributing funding body.

Work Futures for Trades and Technical Occupations, Feasibility Study... Industry Training Branch, Ministry of Advanced Education

Conducted a consultation with stakeholders and government officials to determine the feasibility of producing a Work Futures publication focused on trade and technical occupations, which will support people in making good career decisions. Our challenge is to align the various differing industry classification schemes with a format that promotes career entry into trade and technical occupations

WorkScene: BC Work Futures for Youth... YES Canada-BC
and Ministry of Advanced Education

The youth version of BC Work Futures, WorkScene contains close to 200 profiles of career areas - literally from Accommodations Officer to Zoologist. Each profile includes detailed information on what it's like to work in that field, where the jobs are, how many jobs there are, how much money people in the field make and what skills are in demand in the industry. Your Roadmap to Recognition Fact Sheets... Immigration Division, Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women’s Services

Researched, developed and designed a series of introductory fact sheets to guide Internationally Trained Professionals through the foreign credential evaluation process within British Columbia. "Your Roadmap to Recognition" series is posted at [www.mcaws.gov.bc.ca/amip/iqp].

Youth Options BC... Ministry of Advanced Education

Contracted to review the $24 million per annum BC Government suite of Youth focused employment programming. The collaborative program review was to lead to a series of recommendations for reorganizing and refocusing Youth Options programming to better meet the employment needs of BC Youth. The review involved extensive interviews with relevant stakeholders, both within government and user groups, and led to a set of recommendations for connecting youth to funded programming with very low cost. The contract culminated with the Province funding a successful pilot peer career education project in partnership with HRDC.
